Areas of Interest
Area of specialization is tourism economics and community tourism development and planning. Research and outreach include:
- Regional economic impacts from tourism and travel
- Nature-based tourism
- The identification of linkages between natural resource management processes and tourism
He has been with the University of Minnesota's Tourism Center since 1991 and had years of service as both associate and interim director.
International Travel and Tourism Research Association (TTRA)
- Dan has served as a Past President and Chairman for the Board of CenStates Chapter of TTRA.
- TTRA is the premier research association representing travel marketing and research professionals, promoting the development and use of quality research in the travel and tourism industry worldwide.
- It is the sponsor of one of the travel industries oldest and most well known academic journals, the Journal of Travel Research.
- The organization has 800 members worldwide, representing 41 countries.
Currently a co-principal investigator on a project entitled "Itasca Area Visitor Profile" sponsored by North Central Regional Center for Rural Development.
